ARESTIN ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY
Periodontal diseases cause inflammation of the gum and as a result may cause further damage to the bones and teeth in the mouth if not treated properly. Periodontists at Keene Dentistry & Implants are a team of highly skilled dentists who offer Arestin Antibiotic Therapy for the treatment of periodontal diseases.
WHAT IS ARESTIN ANTIBIOTIC THERAPY?
Dentists at Keene Dentistry & Implants may recommend Arestin antibiotic therapy to treat periodontal (gum) disease to fight off the harmful bacteria in the mouth and allow restoration of oral health. Arestin (minocycline hydrochloride) is a highly effective antibiotic in the form of powder and is usually placed directly into the infected pockets of the gums after a scaling and root planing treatment which is a dental procedure involving the removal of stubborn plaque and bacteria below the gum line. Utilizing Arestin together with scaling and root planing procedures provides a more effective treatment of periodontal disease than scaling and root planing alone.
HOW DOES ARESTIN WORK?
Arestin is an antibiotic present in the form of a powder which contains microspheres of tiny particles that are filled with antibiotic minocycline and release the active agent, minocycline, gradually over time (approximately 30 days) killing the infectious bacteria present in the infected periodontal pocket.
