WHAT IS SEDATION DENTISTRY?
At Keene Dentistry & Implants we prioritize in providing a safe and comfortable environment for our patients. Skilled dentists at our practice utilize sedation dentistry as a means to help our pain-sensitive patients feel relaxed and free of anxiety during dental procedures.
TYPES OF SEDATION USED AT KEENE DENTISTRY & IMPLANTS
Local anesthesia is applied to numb the site of where the dental procedure will occur around the mouth. Alongside a local anesthesia the following types of sedation are also used during dental procedures;
- Oral sedation: this type of sedation ranges from minimal to moderate depending on the total dose given. Oral sedation consists of taking a pill 30 minutes to an hour before undergoing the dental procedure. The pill causes a state of drowsiness to occur for the patient where falling asleep during the procedure is likely when given to produce moderate sedation.
- IV sedation: this type of sedative drug is received through a vein which enables it to work faster during extended dental surgical procedures. At Keene Dentistry dentist anesthesiologists offer IV sedation for patients with high levels of anxiety and who don’t respond well to oral sedations or other numbing agents. IV sedation proves to be beneficial for patients acquiring multiple dental procedures in a single visit.
- General Anesthesia: patients under general anesthesia are completely unconscious during the dental procedure and can only be awakened once the anesthesia wears off.
We prioritize in discussing the potential benefits and drawbacks of undergoing the various types of sedations and which is best suited dependent on patient condition. For More Information Please CLICK HERE
