    Veneers, known as porcelain veneers are thin pieces of custom made porcelain that match the natural color of the teeth and are designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve the cosmetic appearance of the mouth, teeth and smile as well as restore the functionality of the teeth. Veneers are considered to be as a less invasive option than crowns or bridges. At Keene Dentistry & Implants we offer veneers made from porcelain or resin composite with our dentists providing detailed feedback on which is more suitable dependent on patient condition.

    Veneers are most commonly used to treat teeth that are;

    • Discolored
    • Stained
    • Chipped or broken
    • Teeth that have gaps between or small misalignments
    • Teeth with uneven surfaces or holes

    Since veneers are an irreversible treatment option at Keene Dentistry & Implants we prioritize in discussing all the limitations and possible consequences of having veneers placed with our patients. Due to a lasting period of 10 to 20 years, we prefer to utilize veneers made from porcelain to both correct the shape and color of the teeth.
    Placing veneers requires two to three dental visits; one for consultation and one or two visits to make and apply the veneers with use of a local anesthesia not necessary except with our pain-sensitive patients. A one on one discussion between the patient and dentist is encouraged to ensure whether or not dental veneers are appropriate for you. Preparation of the tooth to place a veneer requires a small amount of removal of the enamel from the surface of the tooth with dental x-rays and impressions of the mouth and teeth taken to obtain accurate measurements for a better fit with these impressions being sent to a dental laboratory for construction. Before permanently placing a veneer, a temporary veneer is placed to determine whether the color and shape is a fit for the tooth. With the veneer being a compatible fit for the tooth, it is etched and rinsed with water and placed on the tooth using special cement. Subsequently, the veneer is positioned under a light beam to cure all surfaces and fully attach to the surface of the tooth followed by removal of excess material and polishing of the veneer. Scheduling for follow-up visits with your practicing dentists is recommended to examine both the functionality and comfort of the veneers and to further discuss any of the underlying issues they may have.
    Maintaining proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing the teeth on a regular basis to ensure continued health of the teeth and gums is recommended. A beautiful smile makes us feel great and we dedicate our time in increasing both the confidence and well-being of our patients.
